For me, I have a variety of things I do to distract myself from dealing with a challenging task at work, a difficult feeling.
- Check gossip sites. People, Eonline, etc. I lose so much time doing this. Time that could be spent reading the news or learning something.
- Message people on Facebook Messenger (or other messaging apps). Mostly, this is a positive way to connect to friends, but sometimes is a way of avoiding sad feelings.
- Eat. I used to do this anyway, mindlessly eat junk. Now, I have no appetite.
- Criticize. As with my mom, when she is talking endlessly about something, instead of me being in the moment and accepting her as is.
I write these to identify what I am doing in the moment, so I can become mindful.
