The Old Ceremony is a local band Steve and I used to go listen to. I have a lot of good memories with TOC, seeing them play at Motorco and around town and Steve and me watching the vibraphonist play at Guglhupf’s Oktoberfest years ago. We were so new and fresh then, in love with each other. Everything was technicolor.
I loved TOC because they were a band “of a certain age” writing about life and relationships.
I cry to listen to the lyrics of this song now. This is how I feel right now about my relationship with Steve ending. And in understanding the ending of my relationship with Steve, I can understand and accept Darrell breaking up with me, as him doing what he needed to get what he needs out of life and a relationship.
I feel this way right now:
But I hope to feel this way in the future:
I am sad. But I have a growing seed of optimism and hope for the future.
