Is a 10.
What an amazing film. My Little Sister Emmaly and I went to see it tonight, and she loved it, even though she is only 10. I cried five times.
The audience clapped at every victory. We fell in love with these girls.
The young women in the film are brilliant. Strong, resilient, smart, forgiving. The film is about stepping ostensibly but also about love, sisterhood, escaping poverty through education, fighting for your self worth and future, and about what it takes to win. And more than that. It was about growing up black in Baltimore knowing Freddie Gray “could have been me.”
I want to write a letter to the director and to every young woman in this film to say, “THANK YOU!” I want to bear hug the step coach. I want every 7th grader in the country to watch Step.
